Greetings!
Invitations are being distributed for the first monthly community dinner happening in the San Diego College Area on Sunday February 27, 2011. This initial posting lays out the motivation for these gatherings.
Give Roots to Our Wings is an effort to unite the multifaceted individuals of our community. Everyone has a unique contribution present in his or her interests, experiences, talents, and intelligence. A community of mindful folks can be a foundation for support and inspiration. We recognize growth as a process of thriving and maturing that occurs from experience in the world and relationships with others. I know of no better way to GROW than by celebrating with food and good friends.
Food itself contributes to our growth by nourishing and sustaining us. As we know, eating together is an engaging and entertaining social process. As individuals, we are all certainly capable of taking action in moving toward the efforts and goals we envision for our lives. Gathering and learning from each other will only enhance the journey.
Now for some nitty-gritty details and clarifications:
· This is a celebration of community and growth, but not an excuse to get drunk.
· There is an expectation that people invited to this event are not simply tolerant, but compassionate, supportive and open. We honor differences and the unconventional nuances of people and the world in general. Hopefully together we can all help each other become more mindful and aware.
· Some central ideas are those of personal growth, health, equality, dignity, and democracy. We would like to explore questions such as, what is the role of community in personal growth? And how can community support equality and the dignity of people as a whole? What is democracy? And how do we engage in democracy within the microcosm of our day-to-day and the macrocosm of larger society?
Our Community Dinner begins at 3pm. Please come before the food runs out! The meals will be purchased and lovingly prepared by volunteers. We will use fresh, local, and organic ingredients whenever possible. We will do our best to accommodate are variety of diets. To attend, there is no money or food donation necessary, but assistance with preparation or clean up is always appreciated! We are really looking forward to gathering with everyone and enjoying delicious food! Hope to see all of you wonderful people soon!
